UPDATE:  Read and complete the attached document called BIOLOGY WORK FOR PARO MAY 20.  This is for Wednesdays class.

[I have decided that we will have to skip the quiz on ch. 40 to finish the material on ecology that we should cover before classes end in a couple weeks.  The questions from chapter 40 will be on the final test, so any studying you have done is not wasted.  Today you will be looking at some questions on human population, but I have to put together some details since I had planned to present it in class. Please check back in an hour or two if you get this before I get the lesson on the web site.]

The Battle of the Bands will be postponed by a few days, probably until Wednesday-Friday of next week (Wednesday for grades 7/8, Thursday 9/10, Friday 11/12). This will be confirmed on Monday if we have school. Meanwhile, you should be working on the second part of your project, which will be to present your band in a "business presentation" during class on May 22nd-24th, to try to convince Mrs. Vasquez to become your band's agent. You can be emailing or talking to each other about your band name, CD cover/fake song titles on the back, fake "biographies" on each member, band vision statement (what kind of art you make and with what purpose), and any other fun information you want to include about your band. You can either bring a "folder/portfolio" with printed items, or you may choose to do a Powerpoint type presentation of your band. Feel free to email Mrs. Vasquez if you have any questions, at: rachelvasquez@me.com.

The relationship between Benedick and Beatrice is one of the main plot points in this play.  Carefully read Act 2, Scene 3 (The deception of Benedick) and Act 3, Scene 1 (The deception of Beatrice).  Answer the following for each scene.  Your answers should be complete sentences, neatly written or typed:

  1. Who is doing the deceiving?
  2. Why do Benedick and Beatrice fall for the deceptions?  What does this say about their characters?
  3. Identify one critical point of subtext and explain how you would use subtext to make the text clear.  Make sure you include the Act, Scene and line numbers (eg. II.3 lines25-34).

ENGLISH
Good morning grade 10s.
1.  Read to the end of Act 3 in Much Ado About Nothing. This is due by Friday, and Act 4 will be due by Monday, so read ahead. Remember to work on the subtext as you read.  Read outloud.
2. You also have your reader responses due this Friday.  Hopefully you have already turned in one for this quarter, but if not, you will need to turn in 2 reader responses.  Use as much time as you can today to read and write up these reports.  Remember, they don't need to be complicated.

You already have Practice 13.5 from the other day. Please do the following from Practice 13.5 #3, 9, 15-21 odd, 33.

When graphing the functions, make sure to graph each on a separate coordinate plane and clearly have a scale for each axis.

From Practice 13.7 (see attached), do #2, 8, 9, 17-25 odd, 31, 37.  For the graphs, sketch the parent graph first as a dotted curve and then the translation as a solid curve.  Make sure to follow directions carefully and answer all parts of the question.

SOCIALS

Please see the attached assignment for putting together a pamphlet on a birth defect. You should start the research today and put together some notes (or print and highlight info) on your defect. You need to fill out the sheet or write out notes on a separate piece of paper which will be worth points. If we're back in class tomorrow, you will work with the other person listed next to your birth defect; if we're not back, you will do the pamphlet on your own, without a partner.

BIBLE

Read Genesis 16 and be ready to discuss what law(s) were broken (according to the culture of the day).  Watch this video about the church and creating culture by Mark Driscoll (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdUoMJG1OuQ)

Lastly, look at this list and be ready to discuss the reasons we need to avoid doing these while reading the bible (Interpretation and Culture).

  • Reading our culture into biblical culture
  • Ignoring cultural backgrounds altogether
  • Using culture to make the Bible say anything
  • Buying into cultural practices without examining them scripturally (ie. Lev. 18:1-3, 24-30, 2 Kings 17:1-23, and Eze. 2-:35)
  • Disrespecting other cultures (ie. Acts 15:23, Gal. 2:15, Rev. 5:9 & 7:9)
